Yoga for PTSD and Neurological Health - Fridays at 3:30 PM
Yoga is highly beneficial for PTSD and CPTSD (compound post-traumatic stress disorder) and neurological health. Consistent yoga practice has been shown to reduce heightened states of mental and limbic stress in those with PTSD and similar experiences. Over time, it has been shown to help aid in the healing of PTSD. It can help calm and regulate the nervous system in those experience seizures, Parkinson’s, and other neurological states of distress. There is an overlap in how yoga is used for PTSD and neurological disorders. You are not required to have diagnosed or suspected PTSD or a neurological disorder to take this class. Neurological health is beneficial to all!
For this class, the term post traumatic experience is used as the instructor does not think those with PTSD should be limited by calling them disordered. While it is not a pleasant experience to live with the aftermath of traumatic events, she believes that those with PTSD are dealing with the body and brains survival response rather than some ugly thing that needs to be looked down upon or avoided. By not avoiding it and approaching it gently, healing can and does happen, although this class is not guaranteed to cure you. Taught by USMC veteran Mianna Morrison, this class provides a safe, understanding, unlimiting, and unintrusive space designed to limit triggers and allow you to be fully yourself. Mianna struggled with CPTSD and seizures for many years. Yoga was and is an essential component of her healing journey, and she wants to share it with you. She received her certification in teaching post traumatic aware yoga in 2022.
If you prefer a private session or a session with less than 10 people, please email the instructor at miannamorrisonoffice@gmail.com.
If you are having trouble getting your class to work, please contact the instructor or studio.
Please consult a medical professional if you have any pressing physical issues. This class is not intended to diagnose or cure.

Therapeutic Yoga Wall Class - Sun Jun 18
With the assistance of the yoga wall straps, slings, bars and harnesses we will be doing poses that are known to many, but the "familiar" postures are experienced in a decidedly different way with the yoga wall. Often, with the help of the yoga wall, poses can be held longer and the shape of your "familiar" pose will often be different. It is very illuminating and balancing to experience this approach to the yoga āsanas. The level of difficulty is not great, but this is a class for people with some yoga experience.

Primal Yoga & Animal Movements - Fri Jun 23
The first yogis created yoga asanas, or postures, by observing & imitating animals. This is why we practice "cobra pose," "downward dog," "cat and cow," and so forth. Unleash your wild side & join Paisley Devi for a primal movement practice co-facilitated by Brian Bowles, founder of Lost Step Kung Fu.
Brian has been practicing martial arts for 35 years. His classes combine animal & primal movements into flows that use body weight to build strength, coordination, balance, and mobility.
Paisley is a 500-hr certified yoga instructor with a passion for dance and primal movements that ground the root chakra and open the heart. She will lead a yoga-based warm up and cool down.
Everyone is welcome and modifications will be offered. However, participants will get the most out of this class if they have the ability to squat/ crouch, crawl, kneel, jump, and move somewhat quickly.

Contact Improv - Fri Jun 23
Join Jessica for a contact improvisation class where she will guide you through a mindful and energizing warm-up, tools for individual and contact improv, breakdowns of specialized lifts, and also a concluding “improv jam” to give time and space to explore the tools freely. Through the physical principles of touch, momentum, and weight sharing, this practice navigates the communication between two or more moving bodies.
This dance form is for people of all body types, ages, backgrounds, and athletic ability. The only requirement is respect for your body and the bodies of others.
We will move barefoot. Dress comfortably in clothing that allows free range of movement. Avoid clothing with buckles, buttons, large zippers, or large dangly pieces of jewelry. If you need to tie your hair back, do so with something soft — a scrunchy or rubber band instead of a hair clip.

T'ai Chi for Health & Relaxation - Ongoing Series
T'ai Chi Ch'uan is literally translated as “supreme ultimate boxing”. The “supreme ultimate” part refers to the Chinese concept of the origin of the universe. Out of the infinite potential of the void arises the dual principles of yin and yang. Yang being the male, warm, forceful, light principle, and Yin being the female, cool, yielding, dark principle. Neither one of these principles is superior to the other, and both are necessary because each contains some of the other. They are two sides of the same coin. The yin-yang symbol is also a symbol of T'ai Chi. T'ai Chi Ch'uan is a harmonious dance of yin and yang sometimes referred to as “meditation in motion”.
T’ai Chi was originally practiced as a martial art emphasizing strength and speed. Through time it has evolved into a gentle form of exercise that can be practiced by people of all ages. It consists of a sequence of movements that are performed slowly, softly and gracefully with smooth, even transitions.
This is a six week series with classes meeting once per week: The cost is $65 per person
